Chewy Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe with Flaky Sea Salt Easy and Perfect

  • Author: Lena
  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Description

These chewy tahini chocolate chip cookies feature a subtle nutty depth from tahini and a perfect salty crunch from flaky sea salt, making them a comforting and unique twist on classic chocolate chip cookies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (130g) smooth tahini, well-stirred
  • ¾ cup (150g) packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (170g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • About ½ teaspoon flaky sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter, smooth tahini, brown sugar, and granulated sugar with a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the large egg and pure vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed or folding gently with a spatula until just combined. The dough will be slightly thick but soft.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips evenly.
  7. Use a medium cookie scoop or spoon to drop dough balls about 2 tablespoons each onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each.
  8. Lightly sprinkle each dough ball with flaky sea salt.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and lightly golden but centers remain soft.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for best results. Cream butter and tahini well to trap air for chewy edges. Don’t skip flaky sea salt on top for a perfect salty crunch. Chill dough for 15-20 minutes if butter is too soft or if cookies spread too much. Avoid overmixing after adding flour to prevent tough cookies. Cookies continue to cook on the hot baking sheet after removal from oven.
