Ingredients
- 12 lasagna noodles (regular or no-boil)
- 1 ½ cups ricotta cheese (whole milk recommended)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease your 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil or cooking spray.
- If using regular noodles, boil them in salted water for 8-10 minutes until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.
- In a medium bowl, combine ricotta, 1 ½ cups mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, chopped basil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Mix just until combined.
- Spoon about 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly across the bottom of your baking dish.
- Lay one lasagna noodle flat. Spread about ¼ cup of the cheese mixture evenly over the noodle, leaving a small border on the edges. Carefully roll the noodle from one end to the other, tucking the filling inside.
- Place the roll-ups seam side down in the baking dish, arranging them snugly in rows.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly over the assembled roll-ups. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup mozzarella cheese on top.
- Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Let the dish sit for about 10 minutes after baking before serving.
