  • 12 ounces pasta (penne or fettuccine)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes or tomato purée
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes and season with salt and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Lower the heat and pour in heavy cream. Stir until the sauce is smooth and creamy. Add reserved pasta water if the sauce is too thick.
  5. Add cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Add more pasta water if needed.
  6. Sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped basil. Toss everything together and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with extra Parmesan and basil if desired.
