Description
A quick and easy dinner recipe featuring seasoned ground beef and melted cheddar cheese wrapped in flaky crescent rolls, baked to golden perfection. Perfect for family dinners, potlucks, and satisfying comfort food cravings.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (lean or regular)
- 1 packet taco seasoning (about 1 oz / 28g)
- 1 cup water (240 ml)
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (about 200g)
- 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 oz / 227g)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Optional toppings: sliced jalapeños, chopped cilantro, sour cream, diced tomatoes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7-9 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in the minced garlic and taco seasoning. Pour in 1 cup (240 ml) water and stir well. Let it simmer until the liquid thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes.
- Unroll the crescent dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pinch the perforations so it becomes one solid sheet. Press the dough into the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish, covering the base evenly.
- Spread the seasoned beef evenly over the crescent roll base, covering every corner.
- Generously sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
- If you have extra dough, gently lay it on top to cover the cheese layer. If not, fold over the edges or leave it open-faced for extra crispiness.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the crescent dough is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- Let it rest for 5 minutes after baking before slicing and serving.
Notes
Pinch the crescent dough perforations to prevent leaking. Simmer beef with water and seasoning for juicy filling. Watch baking time to avoid burning edges; cover with foil if needed. Brush dough edges with melted butter for extra crispiness. Can substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken for lighter version. For gluten-free, use gluten-free crescent dough or puff pastry sheets.
