Description
These crispy crescent roll hot dogs wrapped like firecrackers are a quick, easy, and fun party snack with flaky, buttery dough and savory hot dogs inside.
Ingredients
- 1 can (8 oz/226 g) crescent roll dough (Pillsbury recommended)
- 8 regular-sized hot dogs (about 45 g each), cut into thirds
- 4 cheese slices (optional), cut into thirds (cheddar or American)
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds or sesame seeds (optional)
- Cooking spray for greasing the baking sheet
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat and lightly spray with cooking spray.
- Slice each hot dog into three equal pieces, about 2 inches (5 cm) long. If using cheese, cut slices into thirds as well.
- Open the crescent roll dough can and unroll onto a clean surface. Press perforations together to form one sheet. Slice dough into 24 narrow strips about ¾ inch (2 cm) wide and 4 inches (10 cm) long.
- Place one hot dog piece on the wide end of each crescent strip. Add a small piece of cheese on top if using, then spread a thin line of mustard over the hot dog.
- Starting from the wide end, roll the dough tightly around the hot dog, sealing the edge underneath. Ensure dough covers the hot dog snugly without stretching too thin.
- Arrange wrapped firecrackers seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
- Brush each firecracker lightly with melted butter using a pastry brush. Sprinkle poppy or sesame seeds on top if desired.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until crescent rolls are golden brown and crispy. Check after 10 minutes to avoid over-browning.
- Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes or transfer to a wire rack to keep crisp. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
Chill crescent dough for 10 minutes if sticky before rolling. Use a thin layer of mustard and cheese to avoid sogginess. Seal edges well to prevent unrolling. Cool on wire rack to keep crisp. Variations include adding jalapeños, using veggie sausages, or making a sweet version with banana and cinnamon sugar. For gluten-free, use gluten-free crescent dough. For dairy-free, substitute butter with plant-based spread.
