Description
Golden-brown, crispy mushrooms baked to perfection with garlicky goodness and a satisfying crunch. A healthier alternative to deep-fried snacks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb button or cremini mushrooms, washed and patted dry
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, or thyme)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil spray
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or place a wire rack on top for maximum crispiness.
- Prepare your coating stations. In one bowl, mix the flour with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In the second bowl, beat the eggs. In the third bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and dried herbs.
- Wash and thoroughly dry the mushrooms. If they’re still damp, the coating won’t stick properly.
- Dip each mushroom in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s lightly coated. Shake off any excess.
- Next, dip the mushroom into the beaten eggs, making sure it’s fully covered.
- Finally, roll the mushroom in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure an even coating.
- Place the coated mushrooms onto the prepared baking sheet or wire rack. Spray them lightly with olive oil to enhance crispiness.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through if not using a wire rack. The mushrooms should be golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce!
Notes
Dry the mushrooms thoroughly to ensure the coating sticks. Use a wire rack for extra crispiness and avoid overcrowding the baking sheet.
