Crispy Turkey Lettuce Wrap Tacos

  • Author: Lena
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick, fresh, and low-carb recipe featuring crispy ground turkey seasoned with spices, served in buttery lettuce cups for a light and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey (preferably lean but not too dry)
  • 1 head butter lettuce, washed and separated into cups
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked if preferred)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • Optional toppings: diced avocado, shredded cheese, sour cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the lettuce cups by gently separating the butter lettuce leaves and rinsing under cold water. Pat dry thoroughly with paper towels or a salad spinner. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine ground turkey, minced garlic, chopped onion, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly distributed but do not overwork.
  3. Heat a large non-stick skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  4. Add the spiced turkey mixture to the skillet. Break it into small crumbles with a spatula. Spread evenly and cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to get a crisp bottom layer.
  5. Stir and continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes until turkey is cooked through and crispy bits form.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or lime juice if needed.
  7. Spoon the warm turkey mixture into each butter lettuce cup. Top with chopped cilantro, diced avocado, shredded cheese, or sour cream if desired.
  8. Serve immediately to enjoy the crisp lettuce and juicy, crispy turkey.

Notes

If turkey seems too wet, increase heat slightly and cook longer without stirring to encourage crisping. Avoid overcrowding the pan to prevent steaming. Use fresh lime juice at the end to brighten flavors. For dairy-free, omit cheese and sour cream or use plant-based alternatives. Leftover turkey filling can be stored separately in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated gently in a skillet.
