Description
A simple and satisfying dessert made with just three ingredients: fresh strawberries, boxed yellow cake mix, and melted butter. This quick and easy dump cake delivers a crunchy, buttery topping over warm, bubbly strawberries.
Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved (or thawed frozen strawberries, drained)
- 1 box (about 15.25 oz / 432 g) boxed yellow cake mix
- 1 cup (2 sticks / 227 g) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Rinse, hull, and halve about 4 cups of fresh strawberries. Place them evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- If using frozen strawberries, thaw completely and drain any excess liquid.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the strawberries without stirring.
- Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter until fully liquid (about 45 seconds in the microwave or gently on the stove).
- Pour the melted butter carefully over the cake mix, covering as much as possible.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
- Let the cake cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Do not stir the cake mix into the strawberries to maintain a crunchy topping. Use fresh or well-thawed strawberries and drain excess moisture to avoid sogginess. Melt butter fully before pouring. If the top browns too quickly, tent with foil halfway through baking. For dairy-free, substitute butter with melted coconut oil or plant-based margarine. Optional: sprinkle cinnamon over strawberries for extra warmth.
