Description
These easy crispy semi-homemade churro bites are a quick and delicious snack made with store-bought biscuit dough, fried to golden perfection and coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect for a fuss-free treat that satisfies sweet cravings with a crispy outside and soft inside.
Ingredients
- 16 oz (454g) store-bought biscuit dough (e.g., Pillsbury flaky biscuits)
- Vegetable oil (about 2 inches deep for frying)
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon (8g) ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon. Optionally, add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Set aside.
- Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep frying pan or pot. Heat over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer or test with a small dough piece that should bubble and brown in about 1 minute.
- Open the 16 oz can of biscuit dough. Tear each biscuit into roughly 1-inch bite-sized pieces.
- Carefully drop a handful of dough pieces into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Remove fried bites with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, toss the bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
- Repeat frying and coating with remaining dough pieces, ensuring oil returns to temperature between batches.
- Serve warm for best taste and texture.
Notes
Keep oil temperature steady at 350°F to avoid greasy or burnt bites. Toss bites in cinnamon sugar while warm for best coating adhesion. Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain oil temperature. Fresh oil yields better flavor. For a lighter version, air fry at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway.
