Description
A quick and easy ground beef taco skillet recipe made with just five simple ingredients, perfect for busy weeknights and packed with flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (lean or regular)
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup frozen corn (150 grams)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (100 grams)
- 1/2 cup chopped onion (75 grams)
Instructions
- Peel and chop half an onion into small pieces. Measure out taco seasoning, corn, and cheese.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned and no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add chopped onion and frozen corn to the skillet. Stir and cook until onion softens and corn is heated through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Sprinkle taco seasoning evenly over the mixture. Pour in 1/4 cup water and stir well. Let simmer for 1-2 minutes until water reduces slightly and beef is well-coated.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the skillet mixture. Reduce heat to low, cover loosely, and let cheese melt for 2-3 minutes until gooey and stringy.
- Stir and taste; adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or hot sauce if desired.
- Serve hot, straight from the skillet onto plates or tortillas. Garnish with optional fresh toppings like cilantro or lime.
Notes
Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure proper browning. Drain excess fat but keep some for flavor. Use medium-high heat for best results. Cover skillet when melting cheese to avoid sticking. For gluten-free, verify taco seasoning ingredients. For dairy-free, substitute cheese with vegan alternatives or omit.
