Fresh Kids After School Snack Board Easy Fruit and Cheese Ideas

  • Author: Lena
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

A quick and wholesome snack board featuring fresh fruit and cheese, perfect for after-school hunger pangs. This versatile and kid-approved snack is easy to assemble and adaptable to seasonal ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Apples, thinly sliced (Fuji or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • Seedless grapes, washed and separated
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries)
  • Orange segments or clementines, peeled and sectioned
  • Cheddar cubes (sharp or mild)
  • Mozzarella balls (bocconcini style)
  • Gouda slices or small wedges
  • Whole grain crackers or pita chips (optional)
  • Roasted nuts like almonds or walnuts (optional, watch for allergies)
  • Honey or fruit jam for drizzling (optional)
  • Fresh mint or basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash all fruit under cool water. Thinly slice apples and dip in lemon water to prevent browning if desired. Separate grapes into small clusters, hull strawberries, and peel and segment oranges or clementines, removing seeds.
  2. Cut cheddar into bite-sized cubes and slice gouda into thin wedges. Drain mozzarella balls and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Arrange cheese pieces spaced out on a wooden or ceramic serving board. Fill gaps with fruit clusters, berries, and citrus segments. Scatter crackers or nuts around edges or in small piles.
  4. Spoon honey or jam into small bowls and place on the board. Garnish with fresh mint or basil leaves.
  5. Ensure everything is easy to reach and not crowded. If preparing ahead, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate; serve within a couple of hours to maintain freshness.

Notes

Use freshest fruit to avoid mushiness. Thin apple slices dipped in lemon water help prevent browning. Add crackers and nuts just before serving to keep them crunchy. Pre-slicing fruit the night before works if stored properly. Kids enjoy helping assemble the board.
