Description
A fun, healthy, and colorful fruit skewer recipe perfect for kids and adults alike. Easy to assemble with fresh fruits arranged in rainbow order for a visually appealing and delicious snack.
Ingredients
- Strawberries (hulled and halved) or red seedless grapes
- Mandarin orange segments or peeled clementines
- Pineapple chunks (fresh or canned, drained)
- Green grapes or honeydew melon cubes
- Blueberries or purple grapes
- Optional: Kiwi slices
- Optional: Apple cubes tossed in lemon juice to prevent browning
- Wooden skewers, about 6 inches long
Instructions
- Wash and dry all fruits thoroughly (about 5 minutes).
- Prepare the fruits: hull and halve strawberries; peel and segment mandarins or clementines; cut pineapple into 1-inch chunks; slice kiwi into thin, bite-sized pieces (optional); toss apple cubes in lemon juice to prevent browning (about 10-12 minutes).
- Organize fruits by color in separate bowls or sections (about 2 minutes).
- Assemble the skewers by threading one piece of each fruit color in order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue/purple. Avoid overcrowding the skewers to prevent breakage (about 10-15 minutes).
- Serve immediately or chill covered with plastic wrap for up to 2 hours before serving (optional, about 10 minutes).
Notes
Use firm, ripe fruits to avoid mushy skewers. Drain canned pineapple well. Slightly sand wooden skewer tips if too sharp for kids. Cut fruits into bite-sized chunks for easy threading and eating. Assemble skewers just before serving for best freshness. Store assembled skewers covered in the fridge up to 2 days. Expect some mess and dropped pieces—part of the fun!
