Ingredients
- Strawberries, hulled and halved
- Raspberries and blackberries
- Seedless red or green grapes, washed and snipped into small clusters
- Pink grapefruit, peeled and segmented (or blood orange)
- Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples, sliced
- Candied lemon or orange slices (store-bought or homemade)
- Mini meringues or marshmallows
- Whipped berry cream cheese (8 oz cream cheese, 2 tbsp berry jam, zest of 1 lemon)
- Goat cheese, crumbled or sliced
- Sharp white cheddar or manchego cheese, cubed
- Dried cranberries or cherries
- Pomegranate arils (optional)
- Assorted crackers (multigrain, rice, or gluten-free)
- Pretzel crisps
- Chocolate-covered almonds or yogurt-covered pretzels
- Fresh mint leaves (optional garnish)
- Edible flowers (optional garnish)
- Drizzle of honey or agave (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Wash all fresh fruit thoroughly. Hull and halve the strawberries, slice apples thinly, and segment the grapefruit or oranges. Pat everything dry with paper towels. If making ahead, toss apple slices in a little lemon juice to prevent browning.
- In a medium bowl, blend 8 oz softened cream cheese, 2 tbsp berry jam, and the zest of 1 lemon until smooth and fluffy. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as desired. Transfer to a small serving bowl and chill until ready to serve.
- Cut goat cheese into medallions or crumble, cube the cheddar or manchego, and lay out on a plate. Sprinkle dried cranberries or cherries in small piles. Place pomegranate arils in a small bowl if using.
- If making candied citrus at home, slice lemons or oranges thinly. Simmer in equal parts sugar and water for 10-15 minutes, then lay on parchment to cool.
- Arrange the board: Place bowls with cream cheese dip and pomegranate arils on the board first. Create clusters of fruit, cheese, and crackers around the bowls. Alternate colors for a vibrant look. Fill gaps with marshmallows, chocolate almonds, or dried fruit. Add mint leaves and edible flowers as a final touch.
- Drizzle honey or agave over the goat cheese or fruit if desired. Add serving utensils to each dip and cheese. Set out small plates and napkins for easy snacking.
- If the dip is too stiff, add a splash of milk and whisk. If fruit looks soggy, pat dry again and keep refrigerated until serving. Taste and adjust for balance as needed.
Notes
Customize with seasonal fruits, dairy-free cheeses, or gluten-free crackers as needed. Build the board where you’ll serve it and keep everything chilled until just before guests arrive. Don’t overload the board—leave space for easy grabbing. For travel, assemble components separately and arrange on site.
