Description
A speedy and fuss-free method to cook fresh corn on the cob in the microwave, delivering juicy, tender kernels in just minutes without the need for boiling or grilling.
Ingredients
Scale
- Fresh corn on the cob with husks on
- 2 tablespoons water
- Unsalted butter (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper (optional)
- Fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the corn on the cob with husks on under cold water to clean off any dirt or debris. Do not remove the husks; trim the ends if ragged by about 1/2 inch.
- Place the corn on a microwave-safe plate and sprinkle 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of water over the husk to create steam.
- Microwave the corn on high for 4-5 minutes for one ear. For two ears, microwave for 7-8 minutes. Adjust time based on microwave wattage.
- Carefully remove the hot plate using kitchen tongs or a towel and let the corn sit for 1-2 minutes to allow steam to finish cooking the kernels.
- Peel back the husks and silk once cool enough to handle. Spread with butter, sprinkle salt and pepper, or add your favorite toppings.
Notes
Keep the husk on to trap steam and flavor. Do not overcook to avoid rubbery kernels. Start with 4 minutes and add time in 30-second increments if needed. Season after cooking to keep kernels plump. If you forget to add water, the corn will cook but may dry out slightly.
